TNT Express warns of scam aimed at defrauding property seekers
:
Notice – Property letting scam asks prospective renters to send money through TNT Express
TNT Express South Africa would like to warn of a property rental scam in which properties to let are falsely advertised in an attempt to defraud prospective tenants. The scammers supply parties responding to the advertisement with false details through which to send funds for the deposit of one month’s rent.
The scammer promises to courier the prospective tenant lease documents as well as keys to the property, using TNT Express services. The scammer then guarantees that, should the tenant decide not to go ahead with the transaction upon inspecting the property, TNT Express will refund their money in full.
The management of TNT Express South Africa would like to make it clear that TNT Express does not provide such a money transfer service and warns anyone looking for property to rent and even property advertisers to be wary of such a scam as TNT Express cannot be held liable for any losses incurred by any parties that fall victim to it.
If you come across advertising that you suspect may be linked to this scam, or for more information, please contact the TNT Express South Africa call centre on 0860 122 441.
